Canoe sessions - observing Stephen Miles & Jason Taylor

Yesterday I spent the day observing Stephen Miles and Jason Taylor running open canoe sessions with their students. I met them in Llyn Padarn, near the Surf-Lines center were I've spent the week before. It's a familiar place to me by now and I was happy to come back there.
Stephen and I were in the same Level 2 Coach course in 2012 during the Anglesey Symposium in Holyhead. He's nearly to his Level 2 Coach assessment and he was interested in consolidate his coaching skills with two students quite new to open canoe.
Jason Taylor is an experienced canoeist I met yesterday for the first time and was a big pleasure observe him both coaching and paddling. He has a very delicate way to put the paddle into the water and have a play with the blade angle. He also has a very clear way to coach strokes and to give feedback to his students.
Stephen and I were really very impressed by his suggestions and top tips and we were listened at his explanations again and again, expecially when he (was he or one of the students?!?) suggested to practise a rescue...
In the meanwhile also Richard Griffiths Hughes (same Level 2 Coach course with Stephen and me!) has arrived with his happy dog and his open canoe perfectly equipped. He wanted to catch some wind to practise more some sailing but he was immediately involved into the rescue.
I was getting cold just looking at them swimming into that freezing water!

Ieri ho osservato le lezioni di canoa canadese di Stephen Miles e Jason Taylon sul Lago Padarn, vicino al centro Surf-Lines dove ho seguito i corsi  della scorsa settimana. E' diventato un luogo familiare per me e sono stata contenta di tornarci.
Stephen ed io siamo stati compagni di corso nel Level 2 Coach del 2012 al Symposium di Anglesey ed ora si accinge a sostenere l'esame finale (lo stesso esame che io ho superato nel mese di novembre dello stesso anno) e sta lavorando per consolidare le sue competenze didattiche con due studenti che hanno iniziato ad andare in canadese giusto il giorno prima.
Jason Taylor è un canoista esperto che ho conosciuto proprio ieri ed è stato con enorme piacere che ho osservato la sua lezione e la sua pagaiata. Ha un modo molto delicato di inserire la pagaia in acqua e di giocare con l'angolazione della pala per eseguire le manovre ed è anche molto chiaro nelle sue spiegazioni e nei feedback dati agli studenti.
Stephen ed io lo abbiamo a lungo ascoltato ed abbiamo apprezzato molti dei suoi suggerimenti, specie quando ha proposto (è stato lui oppure uno degli studenti?) di eseguire un salvataggio...
Nel mentre era arrivato anche Rihard Griffiths Hughes (anche lui nello stesso corso Level 2 Coach!): aveva una cane felice di correre in lungo ed in largo ed una canoa rossa perfettamente attrezzata. Era venuto sul lago per cercare un po' di vento e per praticare un po' di navigazione a vela ma è stato immediatamente coinvolto nel salvataggio.
A me è venuto freddo solo a guardarli!
