BCU Level 3 Coach training: session 6 mentoring others...

We now have a little collection of this kind of pictures: we three all together!
It happened again: Eva-Lotta Backman, Trenk Muller and myself were all together once again.
We've met each other last September in Helsinki when we organized three mentoring days with Lee Polley, our mentor for the Level 3 Coach training since then. At the end of that priceless experience, Lee said us: "there is no reason why you can't continue to support each other". We easily followed his suggestion and we immediately realized that to become a good coach is also necessary to become a good mentor: you have to organize your coaching session and change your coaching style depending on your students on one side, and on the other side you also need to observe your collegue coaching, to write down usefull notes and spend time (and energy) to give feedback. It works only if you have both patience and confidence, a good balance in between direct message and personal knowledge, something mid way from teacher and psicologist. We could now ask to the BCU to become Level 3 Mentors rather than Level 3 Coaches!
We so decided to organized a new meeting for coaching unknown students and mentoring each others: this time we've choosen a warmer place in South Italy, near Naples, in the little and wonderful bay of Marina d'Aequa in Seiano, one of the best rocky coastline where to paddle along the Costiera Sorrentina.
Thanks to the support of Mariella di Nocera, owner of the Positano Sea Kayak center, who provided us with three plastic kayaks, thanks to the hospitality of the local sailing center Lega Navale Vico Equense, that is just on the sea side, and above all thanks to the eight fantastic "esperimental students", who has arrived from Salerno, Portici and Palermo - Sicily, we were able to organized a special meeting in a special place with special people: the eight unknown students were simply fantastic and they've made everything possible!
"Welcome to the sun land", a friend of mine said to me as soon as I've arrived in Naples. I lived 10 years in the center of city and I've started paddling alongside the Posillipo coast-line. I have always had a special feeling with this magical town, a mix of melancholy and love, and it came back to me every time I came back to Naples. It's maybe the light, the disorder, the dialect, the black cherry biscuit, the widespread beauty... I was waiting since ages to paddle again under the Vesuvio active volcano!
Under a bright blue sky and in an early spring temperatur, we have worked for two long days on rescues and high recovering, on towing and bow rudder, on edging and moving sideways, on turning and stern rudder, on trim and paddling in the wind. We've run coaching sessions from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and after every single hour spent in coaching and mentoring, we've also spent half an hour discussing and offering feedback one to each other. Sea kayak was the only subject of all the conversations we had from breakfast to dinner and the entire week-end was a great experience!
We've had one more chance to have a comparison in three (and more) different coaching styles. We three, Trenk, Eva-Lotta and myself, are going ahead both in our training and in our friendship, and this is something really amazing.
I'm more than a lucky coach: thanks to kayak I'm also a lucky person who is living a lucky life!
